Chief Executive Officer of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) Arshad Farooq Fahim underlined the need for closer cooperation between Iran and his country in the health tourism sector.
“The Pakistani people can come to Iran for treating their diseases at lower costs; hence Iran and Pakistan should widen their relations in medical fields,” Farooq Fahim told FNA in the Northeastern holy city of Mashhad on Saturday, Fars News Agency reported.
He further ensured that “interaction between Iranian and Pakistani governments for expanding health tourism will yield remarkable results”.
The official also called on Islamic states to pay more attention to health tourism, and said a conference on health tourism in Islamic countries would boost their knowledge of their medical potentials and capacities.
Last week, Head of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture of Iran Mohammad Nahavandian said the chamber will pursue joint investments in tourism, specially health tourism, by the member-states of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
“Health tourism links the economic and social sectors and it can create jobs as well as being a source of income,” he said.
“Of course some Muslim countries, including Turkey and Malaysia, have had good planning and extensive investments in the tourism industry and they earn a considerable portion of their revenues from this industry,” Nahavandian said
