TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s ambassador to Iran has taken part in the 1st Conference of Health Tourism for Economic Cooperation Organization countries held in the Iranian northern city of Ramsar.
Nasir Ahmad Noor arrived in Ramsar on Tuesday heading an economic and medical delegation.
The Afghan experts are supposed to outline strategies regarding health tourism in Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) countries including Afghanistan.
The three-day conference will wrap up Tuesday after issuing a final statement.
Representatives of the health ministries as well ambassadors from 9 ECO member states, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) envoy, as well as the representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) visited some hospitals and medical centers in the northern province of Mazandaran.
During the recent years, Iran has paid a special attention to health tourism and has managed to attract many health tourists from Central Asian and Arab countries.
In 2012, Iran hosted 200,000 health tourists, earning $1.5 billion.
So far, most of the health tourists who come to Iran, have been from Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Iraq, Turkey, Kuwait, Oman, India and Pakistan.
Medical tourists from neighboring states mostly come for transplants, ophthalmology, orthopedics and dentistry.
