Receiving such recognition is important for Thailand as health and wellness tourism is a significant contributor to the Thai economy. Between April 2012 and March 2013, it was responsible for generating 858,340 trips to Thailand and producing estimated earnings of 31.12 billion Baht. Medical tourism is growing worldwide, Asia has seen the most significant increase and Thailand has become one of the market leaders. As a result, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has announced that health and wellness tourism will be one of the niche markets in its 2014 marketing plan.
TAT’s Governor, Mr. Suraphon Svetasreni, congratulated the award winners from Thailand and thanked them for their commitment to raising standards in the health and wellness sector. Mr. Suraphon Svetasreni said, “It is exactly this kind of commitment which continues to raise Thailand’s image and attract thousands of visitors to seek medical care here.”
