Romania to organize an international conference on balneary and medical tourism, this autumn

Romania will organize, in the autumn, together with the World Tourism Organization (WTO), an International Conference on balneary and health care tourism in our country, announced in a press release the Regional Development and Tourism Minister Cristian Petrescu.

‘We had a meeting with the WTO Secretary-General, Mr. Taleb Rifai, following which I can announce that Romania will hold this fall, together with the World Tourism Organization, an international conference on medical and balneary tourism. It is a very important event to which the greatest experts in the field worldwide are invited. We will mark, as such, the re-launch of balneary tourism in Romania and we hope that, with this occasion, Romania will be reintroduced in the top destinations of health care tourism’, Petrescu said.

The initiative was discussed by the two officials at the International Tourism Fair in Berlin (ITB), where Romania participates these days. In order to organize the specialized conference, the WTO official announced that the organization will be involved directly, and to this end invited the MDRT head to its headquarters in Madrid, to establish this event in detail, but also to have meetings with top officials in the field, of the Spanish Government included. The Minister of Regional Development and Tourism had, during the International Tourism Fair in Berlin, several meetings with the most important tour operators in the world, German TUI, DerTour, ITS and Frosch Touristik International (FTI), but also with other specialists in the world travel industry. Romania held the Vice-presidency of the WTO Executive Council in the period 2010 – 2011, and in October 2011 it became First Vice-president of the Executive Council.
