Dubai Health Experience provides health, travel, hospitality and visa services online, and Dubai Health Authority (DHA) is aiming to attract more than 500,000 international medical tourists by 2020.

The portal enables people to log on to the website and book procedure packages – including wellness, cosmetic and dental services, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, physiotherapy and specialised medical tests – at any of the 26 private and public hospitals in Dubai,

Dubai Health Experience also allows guests to access numerous other incentives, such as discounted Emirates airfares and hotel stays.

DHA chairman of the board of directors and director-general Humaid Al Qutami said: “Dubai is at the pinnacle of safety, security, creativity and innovation and has over 200 nationalities living here. It has been a pioneer and leader in global development and by choosing to be a global hub of medical tourism it will redefine development on the map of this region.”

DHA head of medical tourism initiative Laila Al Marzouqi added: “In 26 hospitals of Dubai we witnessed a traffic of 638,000 medical tourists, of whom nearly 47,000 were international tourists. This high traffic was recorded at just the 26 private and public hospitals and we are not even talking about the medical tourism procedures conducted in over 1,000 clinics and ambulatory care centres in Dubai. Every year the number goes up by 12 to 15%.

“We are adhering to international best practices and do not think there would be any malpractice, but this provision has been provided for the peace of mind of the patient. If there is a complication, then the individual will be allowed to return to UAE free of charge and revision of the surgery will be carried out free of charge. This insurance valid for a month after the procedure will cover the complication at no extra cost to the patient.”

‘Govt. unconcerned about health issues of surrogate mothers’

The much tom-tommed Gujarat-model of development is mainly based on fertility tourism, which violates rights of surrogate mothers, Indu Agnihotri, National Director of Centre for Women’s Development Studies, has said.

She was addressing a National Women’s meet, organised by C. Bhaskaran Foundation at the Kerala Sahitya Akademi here on Monday.

“If Gujarat was once known for white revolution, the State has become the centre of fertility tourism. But even though the State and Union governments are cashing in on the poor surrogate mothers, they are least bothered about the rights and health issues of these women, who are forced to sell their womb due to poverty, ” Ms. Agnihotri said.

Though the country has many laws against dowry and sex identification of the foetus, the declining sex ratio even in a State like Kerala, which has high literacy rate, was a worrying sign, she noted.

“The leaders who express the country’s hopes and dreams at Silicon Valley, forgets these realities of the country, ” she said. There has been a collective effort to reverse the achievement gained by the women in the past. The digital world is actively indulged in anti-women campaign. Increasing trend of home-based work of women will snatch all labour rights from them, she added.

Citing that more than one crore ‘scheme workers’ (ICDS, Asha) are not been considered as government workers, Ms. Agnihotri said that the system was exploiting them by not even paying them basic pay.

Barring of woman translator from the book publishing function recently at the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Hall was the latest example of discrimination against women, said CPI(M) leader K.K. Shailaja. It was an attack on women’s rights by cultural fascists, she added.

Congress leader Shanimol Usman said all main political parties were reluctant to share power with women.

T.K. Rajalakshmi, journalist, noted that neo-liberal policies along with the so-called austerity measures of the government such as cutting of various subsidies and welfare schemes have encouraged intolerance against women and marginalised sessions in society.

Presentations and discussions on strengths and issues of women in socio-economic and cultural sectors were discussed at the meet.

Various socio-cultural activists including S. Saradakutty, R. Bindu, Mridul Eapen, T.N. Seema, Geetha Nazir, K.G. Thara, Seema Bhaskar, T.A. Ushakumari, P.S. Geethakutty, R. Ramya, T.K. Anandhi, Suja Susan George, K.M. Sheeba, and Nileena Atholi participated in the discussions.

The meet will conclude on Tuesday.

New York, NY  :

On Tuesday, medical tourism company VisitandCare.com, announces two emerging Lebanese leaders in the field of reproductive medicine. The company’s partnered IVF clinics in Lebanon have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the fertility industry and have made a significant impact on the international fertility landscape.

The Lebanese partnered fertility providers of VisitandCare.com set a satisfactory example for fertility success — including professionalism, medical performance, and solidarity.

Tolga Umar, VisitandCare.com CEO and Founder, stated this week, “Lebanon is firmly established in the field of reproductive medicine, and has built a reputation by continually drawing patients with attractive costs, by changing the perception of age and fertility options, and finding ways to encourage patients to never give up on their dreams of parenthood.”

Leading IVF Technology in Lebanon —

In many Muslim-majority countries fertility rates have dropped considerably — due to an intricate mixture of cultural, social, economic, and religious factors. An increasing numbers of Middle Eastern women are escaping from the traditional stereotype and finding opportunities for self-fulfillment with successful career opportunities — further postponing the opportunity to have a child.

Recognizing that marriage and children are progressively being delayed, Lebanon’s fertility specialists are expending tradition-based research to make advancements in the development of innovative IVF techniques for older women and leading-edge technologies for male and female infertility.

The Belgian Lebanese Center for Infertility is one of the Middle East’s most innovative fertility centers offering a variability of world-class IVF treatments. The fertility clinic in Beirut boasts highly experienced IVF physicians who have held leadership roles in leading medical societies. The reproductive professionals at Belgian Lebanese Center aim to provide high quality, supportive and personalized care to patients struggling with infertility.

The fertility center of Dr. Bernard Kassab gives patients a unique approach to fighting infertility — and embraces the emotional journey that coincides with fertility treatment. Dr. Bernard Kassab and his team in Lebanon work diligently to help intended parents have a baby. The clinic shares a collective goal of overcoming infertility by harnessing the power of advanced reproductive technologies.

Family Planning in the Middle East —

With a broader acceptance of and greater access to family planning services, Lebanon is defining fertility tourism. The world-class fertility care in Lebanon is centered on technical expertise, proven successful outcomes, and the ability to guide patients with confidence and on-going support.

Prominent Lebanese fertility providers of VisitandCare.com provide personalized fertility treatment plans, including IVF, egg donation, and gender selection — among other fertility options.

VisitandCare.com beholds a commitment to connect patients to fertility providers who are using intelligence, integrity, and innovation to create miracles every day.

Mr. Umar further stated, “We’re extremely honored to partner with remarkably emerging fertility providers in Lebanon. These fertility clinics deserve the recognition and support as they continue to develop innovative fertility treatments. It is our goal to partner with IVF clinics across the globe who provide reproductive expertise, compassion, professionalism, and the strength to support individuals on their journey to becoming parents.”

Infertility treatment tops list of medical tourism procedures, says survey

Following infertility treatment, the DHCC survey findings point that medical tourists opt for cosmetic, dental, cardiac, and orthopaedic procedures.

Infertility treatment tops list of medical tourism procedures conducted at the Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) against the global trend of cosmetic surgery, dentistry, orthopaedic and heart surgery as the most common procedures people undergo on medical tourism trip, according to a new survey conducted by DHCC .

Following infertility treatment, the survey findings point that medical tourists opt for cosmetic, dental, cardiac, and orthopaedic procedures, treatments or tests.

The survey was commissioned by DHCC using respondents from its 120 medical facilities. The data collected represents a six-month period, beginning January 2014. The sample size was weighted for facilities that offer clinical services so that it was representative of medical tourism profile.

DHCC, a health and wellness destination that brings together a wealth of services in healthcare, medical education and research, surveyed physicians on their views, observations and expectations of medical tourism in Dubai – a focus key for the emirate.

Key findings state 48 per cent medical tourists come primarily from the GCC; 32 per cent from the wider Arab World. The three most popular procedures are: first, infertility treatments, second, cosmetic treatments, and third, dental.

DHCC-based physicians reported that 80 per cent of medical tourists come to Dubai for quality of care.

“Hearing from our partners, who are in regular contact with medical tourists, on their views and the feedback they receive is essential to helping us improve our offerings. As a strategic priority for DHCC, we are committed to increasing the flow of medical tourists visiting Dubai. We can achieve this with regular feedback and cooperation among our partner clinics and hospitals as well as medical tourism facilitators,” said Marwan Abedin, Chief Executive Officer of DHCC.

In its efforts to strengthen Dubai’s position as a preferred destination for medical tourism, DHCC actively participates in international and regional medical travel conferences and events.
