Medical tourism Summit to consider competitive aspects

The impacts of medical tourism in Australia will be a focus of the Medical Tourism 2014 Summit 20-21 November in Melbourne , Australia.

The two-day event has a strong line up of speakers on a range of topics – including the current state of the industry, the risks, what Australia has to offer and how to market it, and the legislative challenges that need to be addressed.

Summit speakers include: Mark Fitzgibbon, ceo NIB Health Funds; Cassandra Italia, managing director – Healthcare Hands and Global Health Travel (Thailand) sharing a case study of the ‘patient experience’.

Louise Johnson, ceo Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority and Dr Vinay Rane, medical vice-president, Medico-Legal Society of Victoria together will look at Obstetric and Reproductive (including IVF and Surrogacy) Medical Tourism; Dr Tim Papadopoulos, president Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery – will speak on “Does medical tourism trivialise the severity of plastic surgery”?  and Australia’s foray into the Medical Tourism sector – how Australia is competing with Asia and the US and its plans to capture a greater slice of the market.
