Lavasa to host 2nd International Summit on Health & Wellness Tourism on March 14 & 15, 2014

The second International Summit on Health & Wellness Tourism is scheduled to take place on March 14 and 15, 2014 at the Lavasa International Convention Centre, in Lavasa, Maharashtra. The primary objective of the event is to showcase India as the ‘Wellness Destination of Choice’. With the motto, ‘Connecting Healthcare’, the event will facilitate discussions on the globalisation of the Health and Wellness Tourism segment by experts and players in the field, as per a release. The summit will be followed by an exhibition to showcase the new technological step-ups of the segment.

Twenty-five expert speakers from around the globe and 75-80 professionals and students from various fields of Healthcare and Tourism are expected at the summit. The speakers include Christina de Moraes Founder, IMTCC, USA; Julie Munro, President, Medical Travel Quality Alliance, Thailand; Dr Premhar Shah, CEO – The Medical Tourist Company, UK; Pramod Goel, President & CEO, PlacidWay USA; and Dr Mussaad Al-Razouki, Healthcare & Education Expert and Entrepreneur – Kleos Healthcare Corporation, KUWAIT.

Over 200 delegates from over 28 countries will be participating at the 2014 Summit, besides Indian State Tourism Development Boards and Indian and international Health and Tourism Ministries. Participating organisations at this year’s edition of the conference are Department of AYUSH, Government of India; Beverly Hills Body Bistro, USA; Klinik Esthetika, India; and University of Grieswald, Germany.

Speaking about the upcoming event, Parvez Dewan, Secretary, Tourism, Government of India, said, “The Summit will provide a platform to players in the segment to collaborate and connect with countries across the world and will go a long way in projecting India as the most preferred destination for Health and Wellness Tourism.” He added that many countries are getting on the Health & Wellness Tourism “bandwagon” and only a formulated and concerted effort can ensure that India takes the lead in this fast growing market.

The highlights of this year’s edition are ‘Indian Healthcare Facilities & Infrastructure’ – an exhibition showcasing the Indian healthcare infrastructure, hospitals, pharmaceutical industry, manufacturing and other related sectors; ‘Sustainable Growth of Health & Wellness Tourism’ – a session where policymakers and industry leaders will discuss the industry developments and current trends; ‘Healthcare Investments & Employer Benefits’ – a showcase on the rising cost of healthcare in western countries and Medical Tourism as an option to meet the low-cost, high-quality healthcare demands; and ‘Incredible India: Indian Heritage of Ayurveda and Alternative Medicines’ – a discussion on alternative practices like AYUSH (Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Yoga & Rejuvenation), throwing light on the cultural heritage of the Indian medicare system.

The VIP Buyers Program at the summit will provide healthcare suppliers from India benefits such as pre-scheduled networking meetings with buyers, agreement facilitation on request, and facility visits on request. Leading healthcare buyers from North American Countries, African Nations, Middle Eastern Asia and CIS countries are invited for the VIP Buyers Program. Buyers of healthcare include governments, Medical Tourism facilitation companies, international insurance companies and employers who send patients overseas or are interested in doing so.
