The Global Spa & Wellness Summit (GSWS) today announced that Mia Kyricos, president of Kyricos & Associates, and Veer Singh, chief executive officer of Vana Retreats & Hotels, PVT Ltd., have been appointed to its Board of Directors. The Board also named Susie Ellis chairman & CEO of the GSWS, which is the largest global organization dedicated to bringing leaders and visionaries together to impact and shape the global spa and wellness industries. Ellis, who is president of SpaFinder® Wellness, Inc., was a founder of the Summit and has served on its Board since it began in 2007.
Pete Ellis, who was a founder and chairman of the GSWS, was named chairman emeritus, in recognition of his leadership and unflagging commitment to making the Summit the most influential international organization of its kind, attracting delegates from over 40 countries to its annual gathering each year.
“Mia and Veer both bring exceptional talent, vision, and enthusiasm to the GSWS,” said Susie Ellis. “Their unique perspectives and experience will be extremely valuable to the Summit as we continue our mission of presenting an ongoing forum where collaboration and shared purpose benefit the industry, the people we serve, and the planet we share.”
Prior to founding her own consultancy dedicated to the spa, wellness, and hospitality industries in 2012, Kyricos was vice president of Core Performance, where she oversaw operations of corporate wellness centers. Previously she was director of global spa brands and programming at Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.
As CEO of New Delhi-based Vana Resorts & Hotels, Singh is developing a new venture, combining results-driven wellness offerings with contemporary luxury hospitality. He also heads other initiatives of the Max Group (India), a diversified company with divisions in health care, research, insurance, and film.
Renowned as a driving force behind the evolution of the spa industry from a narrow market sector to a mega industry, Susie Ellis began her career in spa and wellness over 30 years ago. A prominent writer, speaker, and analyst, she is the director of SpaFinder Wellness’ annual Trend Forecast.
In a separate announcement, Alexandra Plessier was appointed logistics coordinator for the Summit. Plessier, who is fluent in English, French, and Spanish, will be responsible for the myriad of details required to stage a high-level global event for senior executives. She is a graduate of the University of California, Davis.
The GSWS is recognized as the preeminent gathering dedicated to bringing together industry leaders in a collaborative setting, and this year’s seventh annual Summit, named “A Defining Moment,” will be held in India, October 4-7.
Joining Ellis as co-chairs of the 2013 Summit are Emanuel Berger, founder, Berger Hospitality Management GmbH, Switzerland, and Andrew Gibson, group director of spas, Mandarin Hotel Group, Hong Kong.
